We are Rural Alliance Addressing Substance Use Disorder-Colorado

To Improve Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery from Addiction

RAS-Col is a group of almost two dozen local and state organizations that have banded together to improve prevention, treatment, and recovery from addiction. We serve Jackson, Moffat, Rio Blanco, and Routt Counties in Northwest Colorado. We’re in the middle of a 3-year, $1M grant, and we meet as monthly as a big group and every two weeks in work groups, using virtual meetings during Covid. Here are some of our big successes so far:

More About RAS – Col

Leaders from Northwest Colorado recognized our region had a problem. Overdoses doubled between 2002 and 2015. Despite heroic efforts in the community, substance use and overdose have continued to rise.

Rural Alliance for Substance Use Disorder-Colorado (RAS-Col) is a homegrown effort to improve prevention, treatment, and recovery from addiction. Working together, we can prevent and treat overdoses. Moreover, we are building a community of recovery where all people feel valued, stigma diminishes, and our residents find a sense of purpose.

Here are some of the items we will accomplish in 2021:

Provide transportation

for people in the region to detox and treatment in Denver, Frisco, and Grand Junction

Hire

a youth prevention specialist to work with school-aged youth on healthy coping strategies

Commission

a marketing initiative to decrease stigma and improve knowledge about treatment options in the region

Convene

county commissioners, town, and state leaders to build momentum and sustainable funding for this project

Develop

a recovery-friendly workplace toolkit specific to our region

Win

another grant to fund evidence-based treatment for methamphetamine use disorder
